Susan Whitehead currently holds the positions of Vice President and Fundraising Chair at Bay Area Young Survivors (BAYS). With over 20 years of experience in leadership roles within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device sectors, Susan is dedicated to empowering change. Her track record reflects a goal-oriented approach and a strong commitment to inclusion, earning her recognition as one of the top LGBTQ+ BioPharma Leaders in 2023 by EndPoints News. Susan is known for her ability to swiftly translate complex strategies into actionable steps, a skill that led her to found BioSavvy Advisors. Prior to this, she served as President and Chief Operating Officer at PACT Pharma.

 

Susan’s journey through cancer added a deeply personal dimension to her commitment to healthcare equity. Diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) at the age of 42, she embarked upon a challenging path of treatment, including a recurrence with Stage 2 ER/PR+ Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) four years later. It was during this time that she confronted racial bias in her healthcare journey, as she found herself being put into boxes by her oncologists who failed to fully acknowledge her intersectionality, solidifying her passion for addressing healthcare disparities.

 

Alongside her career, Susan manages a portfolio of investment properties as the owner of Savvy Investments and supports the start-up ecosystem as an impact investor in women’s health, femtech and oncology. In addition, she is a 2x Ironman finisher, showcasing her unwavering dedication and focus. In her cherished free time, she enjoys hiking, cycling and spending time with family. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Michigan State University.
