Jane

Former Board

Hi there! I’m Jane, and I previously served as the Secretary as well as Interim President of the BAYS Board. I was diagnosed with Stage II, Estrogen+/Progesterone+ HER2- Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in January 2017 at the age of 45…yes, I just made the cut! I joined the I SPY II clinical trial at UCSF for neoadjuvant chemo in the talazoparib/irinotecan arm, which was subsequently cut due to inefficacy. I then moved onto mainstream treatments, including (chemo: A/C, Taxol, unilateral left breast mastectomy with 3 nodes removed, radiation, and DIEP flap reconstruction). I started an AI + letrozole hormone therapy in January 018 and Ibrance in May 2018. I found BAYS a few months after I started chemo, but I wasn’t ready to join just then. I had great support from my family, especially my then 8-year-old son, friends, and colleagues. Still, I eventually realized that I needed to find a community of “breast” friends. So in July 2017, I decided to give BAYS a try. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made as I went through active treatments and into badassery, aka “survivorship.” I was born in South Korea and raised in the Bay Area. I’ve been living in San Francisco since 1994. Outside of work and BAYS, I love laughing, volunteering, traveling, nice hotels, good food, good wine, organizing, skincare, and being social. I live in Westwood Highlands, on the southern end of San Francisco, with my husband, John, and my now 11-year-old son, Cole. Fun fact about me: I completed two marathons in Honolulu and Anchorage with my husband and many 5Ks with my son. And I HATE running!
