BAYS hosts events to support young people with breast
cancer in the Bay Area. Our breast cancer support events
span San Francisco, the East Bay, the North
Bay, the South Bay, and virtual space.
Breast Cancer Support During COVID-19
To protect the health and safety of our members, we have only held virtual BAYS-sponsored events since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. These include virtual support groups, writing retreats, book clubs, and fun events such as ‘80s Music Bingo. Our events remained virtual through 2021, and we will begin limited in-person events with full safety precautions (vaccines required at all events, masks and social distancing required indoors, social distancing required outdoors) in 2022. These safety precautions are to protect our community, many of whom are immunocompromised due to treatment.
When in-person events are possible…
BAYS offers monthly support group meetings with free childcare and community-building events, including hikes, picnics, and more. Events offer support for young breast cancer patients during diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and beyond.
Events have also included educational events on reiki and healing touch therapy, medical marijuana, lymphedema, and physical intimacy after cancer. BAYS also offers a special support group called Mets in the City (MITC) for young people with metastatic breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Memorial Garden Volunteer Days
As we ready to break ground on the BAYS Breast Cancer Memorial Garden in Golden Gate Park, we have been regularly volunteering with neighborhood and park organizations, including Friends of the Oak Woodlands, and digging in the soil together. We will continue partnerships with neighborhood and park organizations, and once the Memorial is complete, will have a regular schedule for Volunteer Days. For more details about the Memorial and its status, click here.
We encourage our young breast cancer community to initiate events. When in-person events resume, we will offer financial support for those events because we understand how isolating breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship can be.
