Emily Veach joined the Board in 2019 as a Mets In The City representative, and previously served as Treasurer. Emily received an early stage cancer diagnosis in 2014 at age 32, which progressed to metastatic disease in 2017. Outside of BAYS, Emily is a freelance writer and an adviser to medical device startup Casual Recovery. Having completed the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD Institute advocate training, Emily gives talks on breast cancer awareness and prevention. Before the cancer diagnosis, Emily was The Wall Street Journal’s Asia Desk Chief and Senior Editor based in Hong Kong, and consulted with a number of startups in machine learning, news, venture capital, and social media. Emily is inspired by nature and the stories of people living with serious illness.
