Christi Nelson

Hi! I’m Christi Nelson. I’m a 3x breast cancer survivor and a retired geographer and educator. I serve on the Support Group Committee, and I like to coordinate group hikes and walks. I’m a California native and I’ve lived in the Bay Area since 1993.
I was first diagnosed with Stage 2b, Grade 3 ER+, PR+, HER2+ breast cancer at age 40 in 2013. I’ve had two recurrences: one in 2015 and another in 2016 (this time Stage IV). I’ve had No Evidence of Disease (NED) since March of 2018.

Each diagnosis required different treatment – and each treatment had different side effects – but there was one common theme through my recoveries: nature was my inspiration.

I used my science background to figure out what worked and coached myself through each recovery using nature as a backdrop. Now, my passion is to give back and help people heal after breast cancer with nature-based experiences.

The windows are always open in my house and hiking is my excuse to heal and go on another adventure. When I’m not taking care of my teenagers or hanging out with my partner, I’m reading books, drinking coffee, listening to loud music or creating my Think Outside (the boob) Breast Cancer Recovery Program.
